WASHINGTON — Do you want to know whether your food has genetically modified organisms in it? The House of Representatives voted to make that harder on Thursday by banning states from passing their own laws requiring GMO labels.

Instead, the House passed a bill called the Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act that would set up a voluntary program for companies that want to disclose genetically modified ingredients. Firms that want to claim their food is GMO-free would have to submit to a certification process overseen by the Department of Agriculture.

But the measure would ban states such as Vermont, Maine and Connecticut, which have passed GMO-labeling laws, from putting them into practice. It would also allow the Food and Drug Administration to define the label “natural” to include genetically engineered material. Continue reading House Votes To Ban States From Labeling GMO Foods

Russian dairy production up 26% in year after food embargo – Putin

Date: 16 September 2015

Russian President Vladimir Putin has hailed the import substitution in dairy, meat and fish production a success. The government allocated $4 billion to support domestic agriculture.

“We already have serious achievements. This year, we have seen an increase in the production of dairy, meat and fish products – by 26 percent, five percent and six percent respectively. Russia is ready for cooperation in import substitution with Kazakhstan and other countries from the Eurasian Economic Union,” said Putin at the Russia-Kazakhstan Interregional Cooperation Forum.

President Putin said Russia has given top priority to import substitution. The government has formed a select list of investment projects aimed at increasing domestic production of agricultural goods; 255 billion rubles (some $4 billion) has been allocated.

European farmers have been hit hard by Russian counter-sanctions. For example, Brussels-based European farmers union Copa Cogeca, which includes about 60 agricultural organizations from all around the EU, estimates the losses triggered by the Russian food embargo at about €5.5 billion.

There has been a wave of protests from European farmers dissatisfied with milk products prices. Demand for milk in Europe has dramatically fallen since Russia, which used to be the largest buyer of EU butter and cheese, embargoed dairy products from the countries that backed anti-Russian sanctions.

Rising CO2 levels are re-greening Africa’s deserts, bringing abundance that lifts people out of poverty

NaturalNews) Climate change, a phrase that typically instills fear in society, is being eyed by Arizona State University as something that could be beneficial. Contrary to those who view climate change as only having catastrophic consequences, experts from the university suggest that it is responsible for re-greening parts of the world and changing lives for the better.

Experts from the university engaged in a study that ultimately showed that the West African Sahel, the strip south of the Sahara desert, has been “regreening” ever since droughts in the 1970s and 80s killed more than 100,000 people. They maintain that increased rainfall caused by climate change has led to more carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, which has spurred more plant growth and community-led farming efforts. Former Merck rep explains how mandatory vaccination is pushed for Big Pharma profit, not public health

(NaturalNews) For five ruthless years, Merck & Co. knowingly deceived and poisoned 80 million people around the world with their infamous and deadly drug Vioxx. The drug was taken off the market in 2004 after a study revealed that Vioxx doubled the risk of heart attack and stroke in those who took the drug. The psychopaths who run Merck knowingly falsified safety data on Vioxx, which ultimately led to numerous heart attacks and strokes in unsuspecting patients.

All of Merck’s sales representatives must have realized at that point that they were nothing more than pawns for one of the most guile, criminal operations on the planet. Upon hearing the news in 2003, one sales rep decided to quit, disillusioned by the corruption she had become an acolyte for. As her eyes were opened and her life journey pressed on, it became apparent that her greatest desires for truth in medicine were going to express themselves as her reality unfolded. Hungary plans to produce GMO-free milk, eggs and meat

Hungary’s Ministry of Agriculture believes that keeping Hungarian agriculture GMO-free is a matter of “extremely high strategic importance.” In fact, Hungary’s Constitution states that:

Hungary shall promote the effective application of the right referred to in Paragraph (1) by an agriculture free of genetically modified organisms, by ensuring access to healthy food and drinking water, by organising safety at work and healthcare provision, by supporting sports and regular physical exercise, as well as by ensuring the protection of the environment.

The European Parliament voted in January 2015 that member states who wish to ban cultivation of GMOs would be able to. Over the years, Hungary has worked diligently to protect its sovereignty for fears of metaphorically being “swallowed by a large predatory fish,” i.e., the United States.

In May 2015, Jobbik reported that “US bio- and farming technology firms are apparently exercising significant pressure to soften European food safety regulations. He [Zoltán Balczó] specifically mentioned GMO’s potential further market penetration in Europe.”

Despite worries that the bullying of U.S. corporations may thwart EU nations’ efforts to ban GMO crops, Hungary is still moving forward with plans to produce “GMO-free milk, meat and egg products.” Continue reading Hungary plans to produce GMO-free milk, eggs and meat

Record 46.7 Million Americans Live In Poverty; Household Income Back To 1989 Levels

At this moment, president Obama is taking to the Business Roundtable where as noted previously he will discuss “the turnarounds in the stock market, housing iprices [sic?] and job growth.”

In other words: helping wealth inequality hit record levels, permitting Chinese and other offshore “investors” to push high-end US real estate prices to never before seen levels, while everyone else “benefits” from record jobs for bartenders and waiters.

As for the stock market, other socialist leaders will laugh at Obama’s puny returns.

That said, here are some things Obama will not discuss.

According to the just released Census Bureau annual report on Income and Poverty, in 2014 the official poverty rate was 14.8% as a result of a record 46.7 million Americans living in poverty. This is the fifth consecutive year since the end of the recession that the number of impoverished Americans has barely not budged. What recovery? Rainbow Doritos the latest absurd example of corporate #gaywashing… Frito-Lay trying to feed obese lesbians GMO snack chips laced with MSG and artificial colors

(NaturalNews) Corporate #gaywashing is becoming so absurd and insulting to the LGBT community that it deserves serious comment. Frito-Lay has just introduced “Rainbow Doritos” which pander to gays and lesbians, insulting their intelligence by hoping they will blindly eat genetically modified corn chips laced with MSG and chemical colors just because it’s all packaged under the “rainbow banner.”

This is corporate #gaywashing at its worst… a demeaning attempt to invoke an almost dog-like Pavlovian consumer response through the use of rainbow colors that aren’t even real food in the first place (they’re faked with petrochemical-derived coloring agents). CNN tried to destroy Donald Trump with vaccine autism question, but he gave this AMAZING response

(NaturalNews) During the widely televised Republican debates hosted by CNN, debate moderators tried to destroy Donald Trump with a “gotcha” question about vaccines and autism.

As Natural News readers know, a top CDC scientist has publicly confessed to taking part in the CDC’s fraudulent cover-up of data linking vaccines to autism in African-Americans. Both the CDC and the mainstream media — including CNN — have gone to tremendous lengths to censor this news, bury the truth and pretend that vaccines have no links to autism.

Of all the candidates running for President, Donald Trump is the only one who has publicly expressed intelligent skepticism over the insane vaccine schedule now being pushed on the children of America by a federal government that’s run by Big Pharma profit interests. Smart meters giving Victorian consumers ‘no benefit’ on electricity bills, auditor-general says

Victorians paid $2.2 billion for the roll out of smart meters.

Victorians have paid more than $2 billion for the roll out of electricity smart meters but have received few benefits, an auditor-general’s report has found.

The report said the greatest benefit from smart meters over the life of the program related to avoiding the costs of installing and manually reading older meters.

“When the rollout was announced, the benefits were promoted widely,” the report, which was tabled in State Parliament, said.

“However, when the Government reviewed the program in 2011 it was clear there would be no overall benefit to consumers, but instead a likely cost of $319 million.”

It said the cost was likely to climb beyond that, and there was a risk consumers would not see the expected benefits.

“The reality of the smart meter rollout is that the state approved a program, many of the costs of which it could not directly control, nor drive many of the benefits ascribed to it.

“Nevertheless, the rollout is now complete and Victoria has infrastructure in place that might lead to future innovation and benefit to consumers.
