(NaturalNews) If Europe weakens its standards to allow the cultivation and import of untested genetically modified organisms (GMOs), it will be making a monumental and irreversible mistake based on corporate lies and pseudoscience. This was the emphatic warning recently given by primate expert and world-renowned scientist Jane Goodall, who boldly came out in condemnation of efforts at the political level to usher more “Frankenstein Food” into Europe against the collective will of the European people.
Since their introduction, GMOs have been given special inroads into the food supply — not based on legitimate science or necessity, but because powerful private interests successfully manipulated the regulatory process, first in weak-willed nations like the U.S., and now (potentially) in more cohesive places like Europe. Recognizing that GMOs have never been proven safe or even necessary (except to line the pockets of biotech moguls), Europe has largely remained a bulwark in defending the integrity of its food supply against GMO poison.
But pressure is mounting to transform Europe into the next United States, where virtually every staple crop has been converted from a natural variety to a patented one controlled by a multinational corporation. There’s absolutely no science whatsoever to back the safety or effectiveness of any GMO crop, and yet 90 percent or more of the sugar beets, cotton, corn, soy and canola (rapeseed) grown in the U.S. are now engineered by either Monsanto, DuPont, Syngenta, Dow AgroScience or Bayer CropScience.
In a foreword for the eye-opening book Altered Genes, Twisted Truth, by public interest lawyer Steve Druker, which annihilates the myth that GMOs are no different from non-GMOs (except when it comes to collecting patent royalties, or course — GMOs are automatically transformed into products that are substantially different from their natural counterparts when it comes to profits!), Goodall condemns the entire process of genetic engineering, which essentially transforms nutritive foods into toxic impostors.
“[T]his very real difference between GE [genetically engineered] plants and their conventional counterparts is one of the basic truths that biotech proponents have endeavored to obscure,” she wrote. “As part of the process, they portrayed the various concerns as merely the ignorant opinions of misinformed individuals — and derided them as not only unscientific, but anti-science.”
Powerful lobbying, not science, is why GMOs are now polluting the food supply
The ignorant talking-heads on television and on virtually all the mainstream news sites are constantly bullying their viewers and readers into believing that GMOs are “sound science,” and that there isn’t any evidence to suggest that GMOs are unsafe or any different from non-GMOs (again, except in the case of collective patent royalties — the hypocrisy here is unspeakably corrupt). But the exact opposite is true; there’s no evidence whatsoever that GMOs are safe for the environment or for human consumption.
“Druker describes [in his book] how amazingly successful the biotech lobby has been — and the extent to which the general public and government decision makers have been hoodwinked by the clever and methodical twisting of the facts and the propagation of many myths,” she added. “Moreover, it appears that a number of respected scientific institutions, as well as many eminent scientists, were complicit in this relentless spreading of disinformation.”
